SOS is Science
Using the best in medical and sports science, SOS was engineered by a leading doctor, a former elite athlete, and a retired military officer with the purpose of combating dehydration to improve overall human performance.

IMPACT OF DEHYDRATION
During a normal day we lose about two litres of water just through breathing, sweat and going to the loo. When we exercise, we can lose up to two litres per hour.
While sweating, the two main electrolytes lost are sodium and chloride.
Dehydration results in an increase in cardiovascular strain, with heart rate being shown to increase by 4 beats per minute for each percent loss in body weight. This corresponds with an increase in body temperature and the rate at which glycogen stored in the muscles is consumed.
When we first start to sense thirst, we are already close to 2% dehydrated. This can result in headaches, tiredness and fatigue which are further exacerbated without adequate rehydration and rebalancing of electrolytes.
SODIUM-GLUCOSE COTRANSPORT SYSTEM
When you drink SOS and it arrives at the first portion of the small bowel, the unique SOS formula activates our bodies' Sodium/Glucose co-transport system. As part of this process, one molecule of sodium is pulled from the small intestine into the blood vessels by a corresponding molecule of glucose. Consequently, due to osmotic forces in the body, water is absorbed as it always follows sodium.
The 'Sodium/Glucose co-transport system' was discovered by the medical community, and is used to combat mild to moderate dehydration, saving millions of lives all over the world. This method of delivery is called Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT) and is fully endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.
SOS matches the global standard set by the WHO. We have also been able to lower the osmolarity and stabilize the taste – a complex challenge that no other rehydration drink has currently managed.
Osmolarity is the balance between water and sodium in the body. The normal (isotonic) osmolarity is 290mmol/L. The lower the osmolarity, the faster the body can absorb water. High glucose concentrations can increase the osmolarity of drinks.
SOS’ osmolarity is 230mmol/L, which means we are a hypo-tonic drink. The most effective formula for water-absorption when compared to isotonic and hyper-tonic solutions.
INGREDIENTS WITH PURPOSE
SOS contains the right mix of the right ingredients that your body and mind need.
SOS Hydration has no artificial colours, preservatives, flavours or sweeteners.
SODIUM: This is the main electrolyte of the body because it keeps a balance with water. Sodium enables muscle contraction and nerve impulse transmission, prevents “water intoxication” and hyponatremia (low sodium in the blood), and helps with blood pressure control. Sodium is the main electrolyte lost through sweat.
POTASSIUM: Is the main electrolyte that lives inside of the cells It is involved in the correct functioning of the kidneys and heart, digestive system as well as muscle and nerve conduction. With 20 mEq/L we can avoid the development of hypokalemia (low potassium), and prevent heart arrhythmias and muscle cramping.
MAGNESIUM: Even though it is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body, up to 70% of the population is magnesium deficient. This element is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body such as, immune system support, muscle and nerve function, heart rhythm regulation, energy creation, and protein synthesis.
ZINC: This essential trace element has many functions in the body In addition to aiding fluid absorption, Zinc has also been proven to bolster immune function, regulate neuron communication in the brain, benefit muscle repair and growth, regulate hormones, and promote healthy heart function.
CITRATE: This electrolyte works as a buffer by controlling acidity in the body It helps to prevent cramping and fatigue due to lactic acid production. Once absorbed, citrate converts into three molecules of bicarbonate, which is the body’s natural acidity regulator.
CHLORIDE: Is the second electrolyte lost through sweat. This chemical is needed by the body for many metabolic processes. It also helps in the acid-base balance and nerve impulse transmission.
SUGARS: The main fuel of the body is glucose. Glucose, in the correct amount, is good for you. SOS contains the ideal amount and the right kind of sugars (sucrose and dextrose) to help enhance the water absorption process and provide a constant and healthy energy source.
MALIC ACID: This compound plays a key role in increasing energy production, reducing muscle fatigue during exercise, and improving mental clarity. Through enhancing mitochondrial uptake and respiration, malic acid encourages oxygen consumption and thus energy production.
